A Calm Beginning: Guwahati to Tezpur
We began our journey from Guwahati with excitement and a little nervousness after all, it was my first-ever trip to Tawang. Since the route is long and tiring, we decided to take an overnight halt at Tezpur, which turned out to be a very smart and comfortable decision.By the time we reached Tezpur, there was already a quiet thrill in the air. We knew the real adventure would begin the next morning.
That evening was simple yet memorable checking our bags, confirming our shared vehicle, and mentally preparing for the mountain roads ahead. There is always something magical about the night before a big journey.
Starting Early from Tezpur: Shared Tata Sumo Adventure
The next morning, we started our trip from Tezpur at around 6:00 AM on a shared Tata Sumo, one of the most common and practical travel options for reaching Tawang. The shared Sumo fare was approximately ₹1200 per person, which makes it a budget-friendly option for travelers. Though it may not offer luxury, it definitely gives a more local and authentic road trip experience.
And honestly, that is what made it feel so real.
As the vehicle moved out of Tezpur and into the mountain roads, the excitement only grew. Traveling beside someone close to your heart while watching the changing landscape outside the window that itself became one of the best parts of the journey.

Breakfast at Sessa: A Small Stop, A Beautiful Memory

| Clear blue Sky and lush green mountain at Sessa |
We stopped at a small roadside hotel, simple and humble, but surrounded by stunning mountain views. The cold morning breeze, the warm breakfast, and the quiet beauty of the hills created one of those travel moments that stay with you forever.
Sometimes, the most memorable experiences on a trip are not the famous attractions, but these little pauses in between.
A plate of hot breakfast, fresh air, and scenic silence was enough to make Sessa unforgettable.
After continuous travelling, around 12 PM, we made another stop before reaching Dirang for a lunch break. It was again a small roadside hotel, but this time the scene was completely different the place was very crowded, filled with travelers from both directions. Almost every tourist vehicle seemed to halt there, making it a lively and slightly chaotic stop.
Despite the rush, there was something comforting about it. Strangers sharing tables, drivers taking quick breaks, and the buzz of conversations it felt like a common pause point in everyone’s Tawang journey. The food was simple, but after hours on the road, it felt satisfying and energizing enough to continue the climb towards the mountains.
Witnessing the Beauty of Sela Pass
Seeing Sela Pass for the first time felt surreal.
The high-altitude mountain pass, fluttering prayer flags, icy winds, and the stunning landscape made it feel like we had entered another world. There was a sense of silence and grandeur there that is difficult to describe in words.
Traveling through Sela Pass with someone dear beside me made that moment even more emotional and memorable. It was not just scenic, it felt deeply special.

Jaswant Garh War Memorial: A Stop to honour the Legend.
Another unforgettable stop on the route was Jaswant Garh, a place that carries deep emotion and pride. This war memorial is dedicated to Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, and visiting it during the journey added a meaningful layer to our trip. The place felt calm, respectful, and moving.
While the road to Tawang is full of natural beauty, Jaswant Garh reminds you that some places also hold stories of bravery and sacrifice.
It was one of those stops where everyone naturally became quieter.
Reaching Tawang: Cold Air & Warm Hospitality
After a long but incredibly beautiful journey, we finally reached Tawang around 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.The first thing we noticed was the cold. Since we visited in October, the temperature in Tawang was around 1°C, which felt magical and freezing at the same time.
Tired but happy, we headed straight to our pre-booked hotel “ Hotel Dawa”
And honestly, it was a wonderful choice.
The hotel offered good hospitality at a reasonable rate, making our arrival even more comfortable after such a long road journey. The warmth of the room after the cold outside felt like a blessing.
